Scope and Contents According to a note on folio 2, the book was purchased by the Incorporation of Coopers of South Leith in 1669, and it contains records of transactions from the Acts and Statutes, 1525 to 1754. These records, which are not continuous, are chiefly of the late seventeenth and early eighteenth centuries. Scope and Contents The founder of the family was Gilbert Elliot (1651-1718), a younger son of Gavin Elliot of Midlem Mill. Gilbert Elliot was admitted to the Faculty of Advocates in 1688, created a baronet in 1700, and appointed a Lord of Session as Lord Minto in 1705; he acquired the lands of Headshaw in Roxburghshire in 1696, and added Minto to his property in 1703. At the beginning of the volume is inserted a letter of James Ballantine, glass painter and song writer to the Dean of the Faculty of Advocates, 1865, giving an extract of John Castle`s will 1864, bequeathing the manuscript to the Advocates` Library. At the back of the volume are recorded financial statements concerning the monument. The rest of the volume is comprised of copies of reports, minutes of meetings and correspondence, 1832-1853.
